Confused With Google’s Page Rank

I am getting really confused with how Google’s Page Rank works. I have been reading some pointers and tips on how to get and increase page rank for blogs or websites. I tried and experimented the following:

In one of my blogs, I tried to follow the common pointers in getting higher page rank:

With daily blog posts and I must say, with good content and keywords. Did bloghop and left some comments on other blogs. Exchanged links with other blogs and created a blogroll for these links. Enrolled my blogs in blog directories to increase traffic.

While on the other hand, I have this 2-month old blog that has:

No daily blog post but instead I only posted twice or thrice a week. I never bloghopped nor left some comments for this blog. No blogroll or link exchange. Not enrolled in any blog directories.

I know, you would expect that the first blog has a page rank. Naw! The second blog has the page rank of 1 while the first one has zero page rank. This is quite surprising because what I did with the second blog was contradictory to what was being advised by the so-called experts of Google.

So, now am confused and this is why I am giving up analyzing and experimenting on Google page rank. For now, I’ll just write what I like when I like it. Of course, I will still keep an eye on the keywords from time to time.

Those Cheap Airline Tickets And Australian Souvenirs

This past weekend, there were a lot of people I know who went into panic mode trying to get the cheapest plane tickets online. It was the time of year that airline companies offer the cheapest ticket sales for next year’s travels. Surprisingly, I was not among those who hogged the internet until the wee hours of the morning to get these good offers and I heard that most of travel companions opted to sleep than click their fingers numb to get their reservations.

It is not that I have no travel plans for next year. It is just that the plans I have with my friends are still on the planning stage that I could not just finalize buying any plane tickets right now. I am sure my friends feel the same way, which was why we all opted to travel in dreamland than get bleary-eyed getting those tickets.

I remember that one of the most unforgettable foreign travels I had was the Australian trip I took with two of my friends. We were able to get the cheapest travel package that included hotel accommodations, plane tickets and airport transfer for three Australian cities namely: Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane. We had a blast and because we were able to save money from our travel expense, we were able to buy more Australian souvenirs for our family and friends back home.

I distinctly recall receiving a cute koala stuffed toy some years ago from a friend who also did the Australian trip. I wanted to buy one too but I ended up buying key chains instead. I also bought two souvenir bags for my mother.  My only regret, I did  not buy some boomerangs to take home for souvenir.

Anyway, I hope that I can still avail of these cheap airline offers after I finalize my travel plans with my friends as soon as possible. Who knows, I might be able to do another Australian trip again.

Saturday 9 #12 She's A Beauty

Saturday 9: She's a Beauty

1. Do you consider yourself beautiful?
Yes, because I am one of God's creation just like everybody else.

2. Do you think you have a great sense of humor?
A lot of people say so.

3. What is the funniest thing you ever said?
Gosh, can't recall. There were too many.

4. What's the funniest thing you ever did?
There's a lot but one that crops up in my mind right now is the incident wherein I opened a cubicle's door in the women's comfort room and I saw a woman struggling to pull up her panties while trying to catch her wig which was hanging precariously on her head.

5. In a partner, how important are looks?
Not much really. Character comes first.

6. In a partner, how important is sense of humor?
It should always be there but not too much that he could be misconstrued as insensitive.

7. What's the funniest thing a partner ever said?
Too many.

8. What's the funniest thing a partner ever did?
Too many.

9. In a partner, how important is intelligence?
It would be very boring if the partner is not intelligent, but still the character is foremost consideration for me.

No Halloween Party For This Year

For the past years, we have been having Halloween Children’s Party in the office and it was always fun. Our office’s employees’ children did the trick or treats around the office premises while wearing their Halloween costumes, played games, and we had our office premises decorated with Halloween decorations. We even had our Best Halloween Decorated Department contest. All of these things, we are not having now. I kinda miss it even if all I usually did was go around the departments and took pictures of our officemates in their gory, sometimes tacky but funny Halloween costumes. I must say though that a lot of our employees are quite talented and creative especially in doing the Halloween decorations.

Anyway, I understand that we are not having this Halloween Party this year as a way of symphatizing with the flood and typhoon victims. Perhaps next year, we can have our Halloween Party again.

What Continent Are You?

I saw this in a friend's blog and got curious what would be the result if I try this. So, here's mine...
You Are South America
You are sensual, passionate, and resilient. You live fast but so far you've been able to avoid dying young.
You are charming and ambitious. You've had some setbacks, but you always overcome them with style and grace.

You are hard to pin down, and much more sophisticated than you appear at first glance.
You are culturally literate and very aware of your place in the world. You are as sexy as people say, but there's so much more to you than that.

My Childhood Car Memories

My parents did not have a car when I was kid. We had a jeepney. So, when I lived with an aunt who has a car for a year when I was in Grade II, I felt like I was living a rich life at that time.

I found these toyota corolla photos online and I suddenly remembered the car that my aunt used at that time. The car was a white Toyota Corolla. Everyday, she or her driver would take my cousins and me to our schools. There were five or six of us children, all piled up like sardines with our school bags inside the car trying to keep awake on our way to school while my aunt or her driver was hurrying and stressing with the traffic everyday. During the afternoons, we would keep an eye for the car’s arrival, stayed close by the school gates while we played with our classmates. One horn sound from the car and we scrambled for our seat inside it. Everybody preferred the window seat as there were more things to see outside and it was more comfortable not being squeezed in between sweaty and smelly kids that just got from school and play.

On weekends, the car was usually used to run some errands and if we get lucky, one or two of us kids would be able to tag along. We all considered this outing as a prized opportunity as this would mean we would be able to eat at our favorite fastfood or Chinese restaurant with my aunt.

Looking back now, I wish I had the toyota corolla pics of that car from long time ago as I had a lot of fond and funny memories of it.

Nowadays, a cousin is doing the same with her nieces and nephews. She takes them to and fro school and periodically, treats them with ice cream or if she has enough money, takes them for burger meals. This time, she uses a different car. I don’t know what type of car she drives but she is thinking of selling it. She is already going through some saab 9-3 photos and I think, she already has a favorite pick. I am sure, her nieces and nephews would have the same memories that I had of my school days and I am sure, they will cherish those memories in the future.

Greater Power Comes With Greater Responsibility

It is amazing how people could get so intoxicated with power that they forget that power comes with greater responsibility and should be used with caution and dispensed with wisdom.

Is it just proper to act like you own the place just because you are already a regular employee and a supervisor of a certain unit? Is it really necessary to impose certain rules without taking into consideration the effect it would cause to other units, just because it is quite convenient for you but not to others? Can you actually shout or raise your voice to such high decibels that it could actually rattle your window glasses just because your unit’s usual workload is getting to be too much for your own liking? In the first place, when you took on the job, you knew what you were getting into and taking out your frustration to uninvolved people is just a practice in desperation.

Trouble is brewing. Somebody is imposing rules that are causing problems to other divisions and these she has imposed without consultations with them and much more, her new rules are going against what should be done and proper.

It is just unfortunate that this lady started good in imposing changes that were beneficial to everybody, until she got carried away and went overboard. An occurrence that a lot of us sometimes indulge in.

Change is good but we should remember that change is only effective if it is beneficial to the majority of stakeholders. Change is good when done without losing sight of what is right and wrong not when it is done because it is good just for one and only person or unit.

Unfortunately, as people get comfortable with their powers, they develop this God complex that could be detrimental to others. Feeling heady with confidence and overcompliance, they lose sight of what are really their goal and their role in reaching that goal.

Sometimes, we tend to forget that as we go up and improve our position in our place of work as well as our quality of lives, the people we meet in going up could be the very people we will meet in going down when we get into trouble. Life is really a cycle, believe me.

Saturday 9 #10

1. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse.

2. Did you ever pursue that career?
I tried to after graduating from my business course but I was too busy with work and the class schedule for medical courses were not convenient for me.

3. If you are not in that field, what changed?
Financial resources.

4. What is your current job?
Am with the collection group right now.

5. What's the best part of what you do?
I get to meet different kinds of people.

6. Do you have plans to do something else down the road?
Oh yes, I would like to have my own business someday soon and if my schedule permits, get back to school again or just learn some new skills.

7. How did you get your present job? If you are a stay at home mom, how long did you need to plan that move?

8. Did your parents influence your choices of jobs over the years?
Yes, pretty much but in the end, they let me be.

9. What advice would you give your children on careers?
For the youth, if you want better opportunities in life, do not stop learning and challenging yourself and if you're given a work assignment, do the best you can and work hard.

No Flowers For Temps

I expected wrongly again but who would think that an office would exempt provision of funeral flowers for deceased temps and/or their deceased immediate families just because of the employment status.

A contractual’s mother just died a few days ago and it was expected that some flowers from the company would be brought to the funeral parlor to show the company’s collective condolences to the deceased family; but the burial was already a day or two ahead and yet, not even a single strand of flower came. The contractual’s own division already pooled their own money and sent a bouquet of flowers a few days earlier but the expectation was that there would be another set of bouquet of flowers from the office but the reply from the Admin was “There is no budget for flowers for contractuals.”

Imagine that?! Just because of the employment status of the bereaved employee, no flowers were allocated. The Admin could’ve passed along an envelope for voluntary donations for the flowers and yet nothing happened until a day before the burial about a week after the date of death of the deceased, the Admin decided to send a bouquet of flowers but it was already too late.
