Mellow Yellow#12 Sarangani Highlands Flower

MellowYellowMondayBadge

Photobucket

I found this unique flower while exploring Sarangani Highlands at Brgy. Tambler, General Santos City. The white-colored flowers with their petals tinged with green look so attractive but what really caught my attention was that right in the middle of its cluster, a tiny star-shaped, yellow-colored flower stood out. I don't know the name of this flower but I find it really pretty and unique.

Saturday 9 #24 I Started A Joke

Saturday 9: I Started a Joke

1. Tell us a joke that you think is funny. If you don't tell jokes tell us why.
A burglar broke into a house one night. He was shining his flashlight around, looking for valuables, when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.' He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. When he heard nothing more, after a bit, he shook his head and continued. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, 'Jesus is watching you.' Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot. 'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot. 'Yep', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he is watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?' 'Moses,' replied the bird. 'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?' The bird said, 'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

2. Where do you buy most of your clothes?
I buy anywhere. I'm really not that brand conscious.

3. Which famous person would you like to meet? Why?
Mother Teresa, I want to learn more from her. Her selfishness, patience and determination to help the poor, the outcasts and the sick inspire me to do better.

4. What is your ultimate ambition?
Have my own farm and/or beach as well as to be able to do more charitable works.

5. Do you like to live in the area of your country or would you prefer something a little different?
I like my country but I also like to travel from time to time.

6. Has a newspaper or television reporter ever interviewed you? If so, what were the circumstances and what did you think when you read or saw what you said?
No, thank goodness.

7. What was the last CD/mp3 album that you purchased? How did you like it?
The Journey's Revelation with Arnel Pineda as their lead singer.

8. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
Sweet Baby by Stanley Clarke and George Duke
Just Once by James Ingram
What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstong

my current faves:
Trouble is a Friend by Lenka
Bad Romance by Lady Gaga

9. Do you are your partner usual begin intimacy?
Can't understand this question..argh!!

Leaf Through Books#2 More on James Patterson

This is my 2nd entry for the meme, Leaf Through Books. The rules are here. I liked the book, When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. So, the next time I passed thru the same book thrift shop, I decided to check other James Patterson books and I found, Roses Are Red and The Lake House. I decided to read the Roses are Red first. Here's the review...

Alex Cross and his beautiful, hard-driven FBI agent, Betsey Cavalliere can’t seem to get ahead from the sadistic criminal who calls himself The Mastermind. Still trying to recover the pieces of his personal life from the previous case, Cross get into a case where mind games lead to violence and the tiniest mistake will be punished with death. This book is a certified page turner.

Since I liked Roses Are Red, I am now looking for the next book, Violets Are Blue. I checked the reviews and here's what I found...

Alex Cross has never believed in vampires. But when two joggers are found slain in a manner that suggests a macabre ritual, he has to reconsider. Someone believes in vampires enough to have committed a series of bizarre murders that appear to be the work of one. Local police are horrified, and even the FBI is baffled.

 Review credit: ww.jamespatterson.com

I still have to read this book, The Lake House. Perhaps before this month ends..

The Lake House tells the story of six extraordinary children, endowed with the power to fly after genetic engineering merged their DNA with that of birds, and who have to fight for their lives against scientists who want to clone them, producing a race of human-bird creatures. With them comes the help of Dr. Frannie O'Neil and suspended FBI agent Thomas "Kit" Brennen.

New York Holiday Dream

I wish I would have the chance to have New York Holidays someday soon. A friend just had it with her husband last year and they had such a blast. It’s quite obvious from the pictures they have shown to me. They are planning to return within two years.

The only time I have been to New York was with my relatives and we only spent a day driving around the city and a day inside the Metropolitan Museum. It was a blast but I felt that there was just too much to see and do, a day in New York won’t be enough.

I think the best way to do the Holidays to New York is to do it by walking and commuting, not driving around a car as what we did before. Better yet, find a good city tour package because I found out that finding a parking space around the city is just too difficult and really expensive that commuting by taking the subway as what most Yankees do is the best way to go around the city.

Should I get the chance to do the Holidays New York, I want to see and pray inside St. Patrick’s, to explore, sit around and read a book in Central Park, gawk and take pictures of the giant billboards in Time Square, get on top of the Empire State Building, watch a play or two in Broadway, climb the Statue of Liberty, eat again on that basement Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and just a whole lot more of things to do in New York.

Anyway, a friend is planning to apply for a US tourist visa this year and I truly hope that she will get one this time. She promised me that should she get the US visa, we could do the New York tour together. I am keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Saturday 9 #23 Everybody Is A Star

Saturday 9: Everybody is a Star

1. Did you ever think that you'd be a star? If yes, doing what?
Yes, back when I was in high school. I thought I'd like to be a dancer and/or singer.

2. Tell us about the last time you had a romantic dinner.
It was beautiful, funny, comfortable and happened a lifetime ago.

3. Tell us about your worst job interview.
I felt like I was in a courtroom. One of the panel interviewers acted like he was the judge, jury and the lawyer of the opposing party when actually there was none. It felt surreal. In the end, I turned down the job because I could not work closer with somebody who takes pleasure in putting people down. In my opinion, that interviewer still needs some anger management as well as leadership classes for himself.

4. Tell us about your stupidest date.
He was a friend of a friend. He pretended to ask me on a date but while we were having dinner, he tried to sell me some encyclopedia. LOL! Was I mortified? Right!

5. How much in common do you think you should have with a romantic partner?
It would be preferable to have some common subjects to get the conversation going and to have some common things that we want and could do to spend time together with.

6. Tell us about a favorite meme that you loved but no longer posts.
I used to love doing the weekend snapshot. There were a lot of participants and it was fun knowing what other bloggers did during their weekends. Unfortunately, the owner of the meme became too busy and turned the meme over to her blogger-friend who turned out to be as busy as the original owner. The meme died a slow death which was too bad.

7. How did you get into blogging?
I heard about blogging but didn't take much notice about it. A friend kept asking me to do it because she knew I write my own journal. Eventually, after several months of dilly-dallying, I decided to do it especially when another friend told me that I could earn a little from blogging. The rest is history.

8. Do you share all your fantasies with a significant other?
A little secret fantasy won't hurt

9. What change in your life would you like to happen this year?
I really, really would like to do some major home repairs. But I need to fix some documents for the house first before I could do what I plan to do.

Drug Testing For High School

Early last month, my two nieces showed a sheet of paper to my mother. It indicated that the guardians or parents were amenable to have my nieces undergo random drug testing as part of the government’s nationwide drug test program for high school students. Of course, the consent was given. After all, we were all confident that passing drug tests for my nieces would not be a worry for all of us.

Not so for the students who tested positive. According to the Department of Education, there were more than 29,000 students who underwent the drug test program and 72 of them were tested positive. Prior to the implementation, a lot of people fussed and argued against the drug testing. It was like to pass drug test, one has to do something really difficult and unique when all that has to be done was to give one’s urine sample for testing. Also, they pointed out that the test would violate the human rights of the students. Fortunately, the courts upheld the law.

Personally, and I think a lot of the parents and/or guardians agree with me, I think that the program was good. They should even continuously implement this program. In fact, to pass drug tests should be made part of the requirements for incoming college freshmen because there were already indications thru research studies that the number of high school students using prohibited drugs have been increasing and there were more drug users from college students compared to their younger counterparts.

The program should have been implemented a long time ago and it could have saved some lives, even prevent students from discontinuing from their studies due to drug-related problems. The drug testing program is still undergoing some serious scrutiny considering that financial constraints are being considered. I do hope though that the government will be able to continue this program perhaps with some help from the private sector.

Dancing Inmates on Michael Jackson's This Is It

Woohoh! No less than Michael Jackson's choreographer Travis Payne and backup dancers Daniel Celebre and Dreis Reid performed with the now very popular dancing inmates of Cebu Provincial Jail on this youtube video uploaded by Sony Entertainment.  The video is part of the launching of MJ's This Is It DVD.

With about 1,200 performing inmates, Payne and his crew spent two days to teach the dance steps to the inmates.  So, let's get impressed with...

The Celebrity Wannabe

I first saw Marlene Pollard Aguilar on the evening news a few nights ago. Eyes wild, hair freeflowing, unmade up face, talking eloquently even if visibly agitated while she was trying to convince the NBI group that her beloved son, Jason Aguilar Ivler, was not in her house. Until a volley of gunshots greeted the group by the basement’s door proved that Marlene was saying otherwise.

The succeeding events saw her declaring her boundless maternal love to her son complete with big tears. I can almost feel her anguish and I emphatized with her. After all, a mother will do anything for her offspring. Instinct has it that a mother would protect her offspring from any harm. But what kind of a mother is she who tolerates her son’s wrongdoing when what he did was intolerable. Yes, she says he’s not guilty but if he’s not, why would he be hiding and why would she be lying for him?

And then, I saw her almost everyday on TV giving interviews, volunteering theories about the real suspect of the killing of Renato Ebarle Jr. of which her son, Jason Ivler, is the prime suspect. Complaining that her son was not treated well during the arrest blah..blah..blah… For her, it seems, any one is a suspect as long as it’s not her precious son. She’s playing the public’s sympathy and she’s playing it well. Then, out of the blue, she mentioned her book (huh?!) and some more unrelated facts.

That’s when it hit me, this lady’s a celebrity wannabe. Eloquent, bright and beautiful but just another celebrity wannabe and a mother that should not be emulated.
