August is the month of Kadayawan. Davao’s Festival of festivals. When flowers are in full bloom, when trees are laden with fruits and when durian, the king of the fruits, is at its bountiful season. It is the time of year when the indigenous people, people from different tribes, from highlands to lowlands to the city dwellers converge to celebrate together the harvest time and to thank the gods for the all the blessings.
Derived from the Davaoeño word “dayaw” which means something good, something to be happy about or celebrate. Kadayawan celebration is usually done every 3rd week of August. During that time, Davao City pulses with so much energy and celebration. Why not? There are so many things to see and do that one week is truly not enough to take them all in.
One of the must-sees in the festival is the Kadayawan Floral Parade which is usually scheduled on a Sunday, for this year, it shall be on August 24, 2008. Here’re some of the pictures I took previous years ago:
