Reader’s Digest : Making Its Mark Through the Years
When I was growing up, I used to sit and curl beside my aunt’s bookshelf by the stairs in between playtimes or schoolworks. I did this more often during summer vacations and/or school breaks. I spent hours there and would get lost and travel in other worlds just by reading.
My aunt is a bookworm and her bookshelf was full of her reading collections. The one collection that I love most was her Reader’s Digest magazine collection that dated back from years and even decades ago. Reading this magazine did not only provide me with so much fun and imagination but also gave me a lot of inspiration and life lessons as they feature real life people and situations that people from all walks of life can relate to.
As an adult now, I still continue reading Reader’s Digest and even subscribed to it for years. While net surfing last year, I was delighted to discover Reader's Digest Homepage. I saw my favorite feature sections: health, clean jokes and laughs, cartoons, word puzzles, contests and more that cannot be seen and read in their glossy magazine such as RD.com - Make Your Mark, videos, more photos and discussion board.
My current favorite in RD.com - Make Your Mark section is the story of Father Kombo Peshu who paid it forward and did more after finishing a scholarship education given by a missionary, Father Richard Quinn. Father Peshu went back to his village and against all odds, raised funds to provide scholarship education for 40 high school and college students and to provide more running water for his Kenyan village, Mwanda.
Through the years, there were so much more to see, to read, to know, to learn and make your mark by doing something good just by reading Reader’s Digest and until now, there are always more.
